On Monday, September 28, representatives of the Patchogue Fire Department “40 Thieves” Drill Team Alumni attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Patchogue-Medford Library introducing the grand opening of a display area for the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame inductees who are from the greater Patchogue-Medford area. The “40 Thieves” were inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. This new initiative, introduced by the Hall of Fame in 2026, designates a special area of photos and biographies of local past inductees in the library of their home community.

Ribbon cutting ceremonies have been held previously, this year, at the Sayville, Bay Shore-Brightwaters, Hauppauge and Brentwood libraries. After the ceremony the inductees shared stories of about how their life’s journey led to their induction as well as remembering their mentors.

Attending the ceremony for the “40 Thieves” Alumni were Robin Parris, Gary Parris, Tim Bigotti and Eugene Perry. Other local inductees present were Nick Garone, Tom Combs, Pete Cheviot, Kevin Foley and George Waldbauer, a founder of the Hall of Fame.

The “40 Thieves: have also been inducted into the Patchogue-Medford Hall of Fame.
